Peek At The Week

Each week keeps going by so fast! I have some hard working second graders!
Here are some of the things we have been working on:

In Math:

·        Used our tens skills with counters to add numbers
·        Played the game Rolling 3 numbers with 1 or 2 dice
·        Drew pictures to help us read tables and record number sentences
·        Took our Topic 2 test
·        Began Topic 3 on subtraction
·        Read a new math story
·        Played a subtraction game you can play at home!

In Fundations and Reading:

·        Learned about closed syllable exceptions (They have a long vowel sound)
·        Practiced our trick words using gel boards
·        Played a game called Desk Pop to practice spelling words
·        Practiced words with closed syllable exceptions on white boards
·        Finished Frog and Toad are Friends
In Science:
·        Began our new unit on trees
·        Discussed the two types-deciduous and evergreen
·        Learned why trees are useful and read Be A Friend to Trees
·        Read The Busy Tree and read about different kinds of trees

In Writing:
·        Wrote our beginning, middle, and end for our individual personal narrative
·        Added details and drew pictures

I sent home a special Family Tree Project for your child this week. Make sure you see the green paper that went home! The posters are due on Tuesday, October 28th. Please help them gather what they need. Also check important projects for samples.
If you have any questions, please contact me!
Enjoy the long weekend with your son or daughter! I’ll be celebrating Asher’s 1st birthday! I can’t believe he’ll be officially 1 on the 14th!
