Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you have a great time with your family and friends! Report cards will go home on Monday. The conference times are included on the report card.  Also, field trip money is due on Dec. 1st!

Peek At The Week

We had a great week! All of my students work so hard each day! 

Here's a peek at what we accomplished!

In Math:
  • Added tens and ones
  • Used the hundred chart to add
  • Added multiples of ten
  • Looked for patterns by skip counting
In Fundations:
  • Began Unit 6 on V-E syllables
  • Practiced writing v-e words
  • Learned rules for s or z sounds
  • Learned the word doze and rise
  • Watched Silent E video on Brain Pop Jr. and played Desk Pop
In Reading:
  • Read about Pocahontas
  • Compared Squanto and Pocahontas
  • Read about the First Thanksgiving
  • Worked on looking for nouns and answering questions by looking back at the pages for information.
In Wrtitng:
  • Began our Non-fiction Narrative unit (Biographies)
  • Read Testing the Ice as an intro about Jackie Robinson's life to spark talk about who a hero is
  • Wrote about a hero we know
  • Began researching information on Abraham Lincoln for a class book
  • Read The Giving Tree and wrote 4 things that bring us happiness
  • Read about Giving Thanks and wrote persuasive pieces about everyday items we should be thankful for such as pillow, shoes, chairs, etc. They are cute!
Our 5th grade buddies visited us and helped us think of 6 things we are thankful for this year.

Check for a notice about out upcoming field trip! It'll be fun!

Next week is short. We have a half day on Wednesday.

Peek At The Week

We had a short week, but still did a lot! 

In Math:
  • Began Topic 6 on Mental Addition
  • Played the game Close to 2o
  • Practiced center work
  • Practiced mental addition
  • Reviewed tens and ones place value
  • Took an addition facts test
In Fundations and Reading:
  • Learned new suffix endings
  • Practiced trick words using gel boards
  • Learned the words handful and kindness
  • Read about Squanto and answered questions
In Science:
  • Played Jeopardy to review for the tree test
  • Had a special tree student help us review too!
  • Took our tree test
  • Finished our Burlington Tree Books on the iPad using Book Creator
Miss Martin came in to read to us and talk about how we can be good friends. Each student made a key that says one word that they feel is important to being a good friend. We will keep the keys in the classroom as a reminder!

We had a special Veteran's Day Assembly on Monday. We read a nice poem as a grade level.

We also had a fun pj day on Friday! They are already working hard on earning the next 25 baseballs!

Pajama Day Reward

My awesome second graders earned 25 class compliments! 
They voted and earned Pajama Day on Friday, November 13th. They can wear slippers too, but please remember to bring sneakers for Gym!

Peek At The Week

I had a great week back with my sweet students! They work so hard everyday and make me love coming to work each day! We accomplished a lot!

In Math:

  • Learned even and odd numbers
  • Practiced 10 more and 10 less
  • Used charts, data, and clues to solve problems
  • Took a Topic 1-4 Benchmark Test
  • Practiced ST Math
  • Took our Topic 5 test
In Fundations and Reading:


  • Reviewed using Raz Kids on the iPads
  • Played a game called Desk Pop to practice spelling words
  • Learned new vocabulary words: disrupt and mimic
  • Learned 5 syllable rules to break words apart
  • Used Drawing Pad to make words on the iPad and mark the words
  • Practiced trick words using Chalkboard app
  • Learned the -ic rule for multisyllabic words
  • Read Arthur's Teacher Trouble and Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon
  • Practice writing using TTQA and Beginning, Middle, End
In Science:
  • Learned the inner tree parts
  • Watched Pierre's Terrific Trees clip
  • Read Tess’s Tree before observing and sketching 3 types of leaves and seeds we find in Burlington. (Maple, Oak, and Pine)
  • Went for a tree walk around the school with our iPads to examine and take pictures of parts.
  • Did Leaf Rubbings- They loved this!
  • Read about coniferous (evergreen) trees in our scholastic magazine
  • Created a tree book in Book Creator with the help of Mrs. Weldon of the 3 types of trees we find in Burlington around our school. (Maple, Oak, and Pine)
  • Read aloud Me and My Family Tree
  • Wrote answers to a family tree scavenger hunt on our Room 206 Tree Museum Walk and discussed where our families came from around the world

I sent home a study guide for our Tree Test on November 12th. Please help your child study for the test! Students will have no school on Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th.
