Peek At The Week

The weeks keep flying by! We had a great time learning and also spending time at The Harvard Museum! Check out the photos! I know many students are busily working on their Blizzard Bag projects! The project is due on June 1st.

Here's a peek at our week....

In Math:

  • completed out unit on money by taking our test
  • began Topic 15 on measurement
  • read Measuring Penny
  • played a measurement game using estimation and cubes
  • measured items using non-standard measurement (paper clips) and standard measurement using rulers
In Science:
  • focused on the moon by reading The Moon Book by Gail Gibbons and The Moon
  • watched All About the Moon video 
  • learned about the moon phases focusing on the 4 main phases (new moon, first quarter, full, last quarter)
  • learned about different types of fossils
  • watched All About Fossils and a short Brain Pop Jr. video
  • Read Fossils Tell of Long Ago and Buried in the Backyard
***A study guide went home for our test on the Sun, Moon, and Earth on Wed. 5/27***

In ELA
  • completed unit 16 on sounds of aw, au
  • began unit 17 on consonant -le
  • learned words fable and pebble
  • played trick word relay
  • partner read and summarized How Pizza Came to Queens
  • began DRA testing 
In Writing:
  • began a longer persuasive unit researching India and creating a class travel brochure

Peek At The Week

We had a fast week! I still can't believe it's May and our time is moving so fast!! Please turn in your field trip money and slip if you have not done so yet by Monday. Also, don't forget to check out my page on the Blizzard Bag info! The project is due on June 1st.

Here's a peek at our week....

In Math:

  • began learning about money and coins
  • identified the value of coins and examined real coins using magnifying glasses
  • read Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday and The Penny Pot
  • played Collect 25 and 50 cents to trade coins that equal the same value
  • counted coins using the larger coin to begin
In Science:
  • played Jeopardy to prepare for our insect test
  • took our insect test (They all did great!)
In ELA
  • continued to work out sounds of oo
  • took unit 15 fundations test
  • read The Old Woman Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle
In Writing:
  • practiced homework writing
  • read I Wanna Iguana and wrote a persuasive letter (Look for a letter to you about a pet! :)
  • wrote a persuasive piece about the best season
  • wrote a special poem about our mothers
