We've Been Busy Bees!

It was so great to meet most of you on Wednesday night! Thank you for coming! I am having a great time getting to know my students!

We have been learning about nouns all week and started learning about verbs today. They completed fun activities. We even learned a song about verbs too!

We have also began talking about what makes a great personal narrative and what good manners look like in school.

We began Topic 1 in Math and worked on turn around facts. We also read the book Two of Everything and wrote magic pot problems. Ask your child to tell you about this awesome Chinese Folktale. We also played fun games called Make Ten Double It.

This afternoon, we started learning about amphibians. They seem very interested! :)

Have a great weekend! :)

A Great First Week!

Welcome to a brand new school year! I am so excited to be starting my ninth year teaching second grade! We have had a great first week getting to know each other. We have been going over and practicing important classroom and school routines. We also brainstormed our classroom rules and signed our names to agree to follow them.

I love reading stories and I am so happy that my students love listening to stories too! Some of the books we read this week were: First Day Jitters, Miss Nelson Is Missing, Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books, Chrysanthemum, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, The Color of Us, I Like Myself, and Odd Velvet. Odd Velvet is one of my favorite books! After reading this story, we had a terrific talk about what it means to treat other people and not judge them before truly getting to know them. We also discussed how we are each valuable, special, and unique. We drew pictures and used different adjectives to describe ourselves. Each child did a great job!

Thank you for filling out the important paperwork that went home in the folders. If you still have any papers  please try to fill out the forms and return them as soon as possible. I know it is a lot, but it is very helpful!
I look forward to meeting all of you at our Open House on Wednesday, September 14th.
It’s going to be a great year!

Here are some pics from the week!

School Again! :)

The classroom is all set up! I am excited to meet my new students next Tuesday! I had a great summer with my husband and my son Asher who will turn 3 in October. We traveled to Maine, North Carolina, and New Hampshire. I look forward to hearing all about your summer vacations too! Enjoy the last weekend before school begins! Also, please remember to bring in your questionnaire and a healthy snack on Tuesday.
