Peek At The Week

Brrrr! It's so cold, but winter is officially coming next week! We have been working hard on many tasks!

Here are some things we did this week!

In Math:
  • Solved 1 and 2 step problems
  • Completed Daily Math Review work
  • Explained whether we agreed or disagreed with someone's math solving skills
  • Did our review/reteaching/game page with a perky partner





 




In Fundations:

  • Began Unit 7 on open syllables and reviewed all the syllable types
  • Learned the word shy
  • Practiced words using white boards
  • Played Desk Pop to practice spelling and syllable marking
My reading class in finishing DRAs and my group read Wonderful Winter. We worked on comparing the main character to ourselves, took a quiz, and wrote a summary together.


In Science:
  • Started learning about reptiles and the 4 main groups are turtles, crocodilians, lizards and snakes
  • Made a folder and did a sorting acitivity
In Writing and Social Studies:
  • Finalizing our individual biography reports after doing research with books and websites on the iPads.
We met with our 5th grade buddies today and learned a new game.
It is fun and the second grade won! :)

Peek At The Week

It's December! How did that happen? It was so nice speaking with all of the parents about how their children are doing. My students are so kind and such hard workers. It makes me love coming to work each day!

Here are some things we have been working on:

In Math:
  • Began Unit 5 using subtraction strategies
  • Used the hundred chart to solve problems
  • Used the open number line to subtract tens
  • Used the open number line to subtract tens and ones
  • Practiced ST Math
In Fundations and Reading:
  • Practiced our unit 6 trick words using gel boards
  • Learned about -ive suffix and exception to the rule
  • Practiced a check up in our composition book
  • Played Desk Pop to practice spelling words
  • Worked on summarizing stories in our own words
In Writing:
  • Worked on the final product for our class book on Abraham Lincoln. They did an amazing job!







*The students will begin individual projects next week.

In Social Studies:
  • Read about The Pilgrims and watched a short video
  • Read with our 5th grade buddies

Happy Thanksgiving!


I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Enjoy the long weekend with your family! Report cards go home on Monday and it'll tell you the conference time for Dec. 1st. :)

What a sweet surprise to receive this from my students yesterday. They got everyone to sign it secretly!
I am so thankful for my students! :) I'm glad that they show that they care and appreciate my hard work too!

Peek At The Week

We had another great week in Room 206! Your children are very hard workers! :)

Here are some of the things we have been working on:

In Math: 
·  Halloween math review with partners
·        Solved 2 part word problems
·        Solved problems using different strategies  
·   Reviewed for Topic 3 with a reteaching page
·       Took our Topic 3 test
·       Practiced ST Math  

In Fundations and Reading:
·        Began Unit 5 with syllable rules for breaking words apart
·        Practiced trick words with gel boards
·        Discussed the words disrupt and mimic for vocabulary
·        Practiced skill sheets
·        Learned the rule for -ic at the end of multisyllabic words
·        Played roll and write with a partner

·        My reading group is reading a folktale called The Lad Who Went to The North Wind.

In Science:

·        Read Little Tree and read about terrific trees
·        Took a tree walk around the school to learn about and take pictures of oak, maple and pine trees
·       Collected leaves and did leaf rubbings
·        Played Jeopardy to review for the test
·        Drew the seeds and leaves from sample of an oak, maple and pine tree
·       Took our tree test (They all did very well!)

In Writing:
·        We illustrated our personal narrative stories

We got to decorate our lockers today and they did a great job!

Enjoy the weekend! Next week, the students are only coming to school on Monday and Wednesday!

Peek At The Week

Thanks for sending in all of the awesome family trees! They did a great job and we had fun learning and looking at the trees and answering questions.

Here are some of the things we have been working on:

In Math: 
·  Used tens and ones to solve 2 digit addition problems
·   Used a break apart strategy and keeping the number whole
·        Used compensation to solve problems to get to the next ten
·        Learned a new game called Close to 20
·        Practiced ST Math and Reflex Math

In Fundations and Reading:
·        Learned about the 3 sounds of the suffix -ed
·        Discussed the words checked and swelled for vocabulary
·        Practiced skill sheets
·        Practiced categories of words for -ed with id, d, t sounds
·        Took our Unit 4 test

·        My reading group read A Halloween Rhyme- we practiced marking nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and we wrote our own poems too.

In Science:
·        Read Maple Trees, sang a Maple Tree song and answered diagram questions
·        Watched a short video about trees
·        Read books called Are Trees Alive?, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, and Tess's Tree
·        Learned the inner parts of the tree and their definitions by making a tree booklet
·        Learned about our families and did a museum walk with questions

In Writing:
·        We typed our personal narratives on the iPads for our final copies
·        Learned about homophones
Enjoy the weekend! Crazy Hat Day on Halloween and an important study guide for the tree test next Friday went home today! Please help your child study.
