Peek At The Week

We had another great week of learning in second grade! Your children are working so hard and I am very proud to be their teacher!

Here are some of the things we have been working on:

In Math:

· Fact Families/Related Facts

· Making a ten to subtract

· Practiced addition and subtraction facts

· Solved word problems

· Worked on constructing arguments to prove and explain answers
· Practiced ST Math

In Fundations and Reading:

· Learned about bonus letters f, l, s and sometimes z

· Practiced trick words using gel boards-they love them!

· Learned and discussed the words stall and toss for vocabulary

· Practiced dictation using the white boards

· Practiced skill sheets

· Practiced alphabet aerobics-have your child show you!

· My reading group creating a reading glyph and started reading Frog and Toad are Friends

In Science:

·        Read a packet on Frogs and practiced TTQA (Turning the Question Around)
·        Learned about the life cycle of a frog through a read aloud, Brain Pop Jr. and made a wheel
·        Read The Frog Principal and Fun Facts about Salamanders
·        Read leaf litter and salamanders in Scholastic Magazine
·        A study guide went home for our test next Thursday

In Writing:

· Learned about adjectives using songs and our morning message
· Used puzzles and partners to find some in the picture

· Wrote our middles and ends to finish our personal narratives- They were great!

· Met our 5th grade buddies and read together
