Another week
completed, but I am missing many of my poor sick students!
I am hoping to see all my second
grade stars next Tuesday!
In Math, we
practiced counting using different numbers. We worked with a partner showing
towers of twos, fives, and tens and filled in a table. We also
looked at tens and ones problems and practiced combination cards with 10. We
played Collect 50 cents to review our money trading skills too. We will wrap up
this Unit next week and begin Unit 9 on measurement.
In Social Studies,
we went to the computer lab to label the special 7 continents and 5 oceans. The
students all did a great job! We learned 2 special songs to help us
remember all the continents and oceans. We also learned about cardinal directions.
We used a mnemonic device called Nothing, Ever, Scares, Wanda (North, East,
South, and West). Wanda is a scary witch and we created a paper compass with
her on it. They are fun to use to learn directions!
In Writing, we
learned about diamante poems. We wrote an antonym one comparing winter to
summer. We brainstormed ideas and then they chose what words they liked best.
They came out well and you can see them in their backpack folders.
There is no school
on Monday 1/21 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
I hope to see everyone on Tuesday!
Have a great
weekend and stay warm!
