Happy Fall Everyone!

It's finally fall and almost October! This is my favorite season!

In Math, we are working adding 0,1,2, doubles, and near doubles. We learned a cool doubles rap and played some fun games with a partner. We also read the book Two of Everything and wrote magic pot problems.

In Science, we continued learning about amphibians. We watched a fun video and wrote facts. Mrs. P came in and brought a special class pet! His name is Frodo and he is an American Toad! They love him! We read about frogs too and how to TTQA (Turn the Question Around). Today, we compared frogs and toads using a Venn Diagram. The students did a great job!

We also learned about adjectives and did a fun puzzle activity together. We read about being a good citizen too!
I'm looking forward to the week ahead!

We've Been Busy Bees!

It was so great to meet most of you on Tuesday night! Thank you for coming! I am having a great time getting to know my sweet students!

We have been learning about nouns and verbs by doing fun activities. We even learned a fun song about verbs too!

We have also been learning about what makes a great personal narrative. We are making a class book about the first day of school. They began editing today and will start writing their final copy next week. I'm very impressed!

We completed Topic 1 in Math on addition and subtraction and took our test today.

We also started learning about amphibians. They seem very interested! :)

Have a great weekend! :)

A Great First Week!

Welcome to a brand new school year! I am so excited to be starting my eighth year teaching second grade! We have had a great first week getting to know each other. We have been going over and practicing important classroom and school routines. We also brainstormed our classroom rules and signed our names to agree to follow them.

I love reading stories and I am so happy that my students love listening to stories too! Some of the books we read this week were: First Day Jitters, Miss Nelson Is Missing, Chrysanthemum, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, The Color of Us, I Like Me, and Odd Velvet. Odd Velvet is one of my favorite books! After reading this story, we had a terrific talk about what it means to treat other people and not judge them before truly getting to know them. We also discussed how we are each valuable, special, and unique. We drew pictures and used different adjectives to describe ourselves. Each child did a great job!

Thank you for filling out the important paperwork that went home in the folders. If you still have any papers  please try to fill out the forms and return them as soon as possible. I know it is a lot, but it is very helpful! Also, I sent home a blog permission slip, so that I can begin posting fun photos and things from the students. The slip should be returned by tomorrow!

I look forward to meeting all of you at our Open House on Tuesday, September 15th.
It’s going to be a great year!
